A Creative Journey: From Designer to Coach

I’m Lisa, and I’m delighted to welcome you to my world as The Designer Coach®. My journey to becoming a creative coach has been as colourful and diverse as the designs I’ve created over the years.
For 22 and a half years, I lived and breathed graphic design. I revelled in the challenge of translating ideas into visual masterpieces, rode the waves of client feedback, and navigated the ever-evolving landscape of design trends and technologies. Like many of you, I experienced the highs of creative breakthroughs and the lows of creative blocks. I felt the thrill of landing dream projects and the frustration of imposter syndrome creeping in.
However, as I progressed in my career, I realised that my true passion lay not just in creating designs, but in nurturing the creative spirit within myself and others. This realisation led me on a transformative journey from designer to coach, where I now have the privilege of guiding fellow creatives to unlock their full potential.
I want to inspire and empower designers to embrace and amplify their innate creativity, unlocking their full potential to create fulfilling lives and careers.
From Designer to
Creative Coach
My transition from graphic designer to creative coach was a gradual and organic process, rather than an abrupt change. During my time in the design industry, I’ve experienced it all – from large agencies to small boutiques, in-house teams to freelance work, and even creating my own businesses (some successful, others less so). I’ve collaborated with big-name clients and fledgling startups alike, honing my creative expertise and mastering the art of client communication along the way. It’s a point of pride that many of the clients I retired with were ones I started working with as a junior designer – a testament to my ability to nurture long-term relationships.
This diverse experience has given me valuable insight into every facet of the design world. Throughout my career, I’ve adapted to the constant flux of design trends and technological advancements. This wealth of experience now serves as the cornerstone of my coaching methodology, affording me a profound, practical understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that designers encounter in their careers.
However, I knew that to truly help fellow creatives thrive, I needed to expand my toolkit beyond design expertise. This realisation led me on a transformative path of personal and professional development:
- I became a Certified Coach, learning specialised techniques to nurture and amplify creative potential.
- I expanded my skills further allowing me to address the whole person behind the designer.
- Fascinated by the power of the mind in creative work, I pursued mastery in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), becoming an NLP Master Practitioner.
This unique blend of extensive design experience and multifaceted coaching expertise allows me to offer a perspective that is both practical and transformative. I understand the intricacies of the design world from the inside out, and I’ve honed the coaching skills necessary to guide you through your own creative evolution.

When I’m not coaching or dreaming up new ways to inspire creatives, you’ll find me immersed in a variety of passions that fuel my own creativity and zest for life:
My husband and I run an arable farm with exciting diversification projects, including a glamping site, farm shop, and dog paddock. This connection to the land keeps me grounded and constantly inspired by nature’s design.
I’m an avid explorer, always seeking new cultures, perspectives, and sources of inspiration. From the vibrant streets of Fiji to hidden gems in the UK, each journey broadens my horizons and enriches my coaching approach.
I’m deeply committed to environmental conservation and sustainable living. This passion influences both my personal life and my approach to design and coaching.
Currently, I’m embarking on an exciting project of converting an ambulance into a camper van. This hands-on creative challenge reminds me of the joy in bringing unique visions to life.
I find immense joy in foraging, which not only provides free, natural food but also deepens my connection to the land and the cycles of nature.
These diverse interests infuse my coaching with real-world insights and a holistic perspective on creativity and life design.
